A founding partner of the MCR Manchester office, Phil has 20 years experience in the corporate restructuring and recovery market. Previously a partner in the Manchester office of the UK's largest independent corporate restructuring practice, Phil joined MCR in 2007 to set up the Manchester office with David Whitehouse.
He has undertaken a great number of Independent Business Reviews on behalf of a wide range of stakeholders always providing innovative, concise and useful recommendations, which have assisted the companies and stakeholders in deciding the most appropriate strategy to achieve a turnaround and/or restructuring.
Phil's industry specialisations include Retail, Travel, Sport and Manufacturing. He oversaw the sale of the Owen Owen retail chain ensuring the saving of 800 jobs as well as repayment of the bank debt. More recently, he oversaw the sale of Ethel Austin, including 300 retail outlets and some 2,000 staff. Phil has been administrator to a number of travel businesses, including Club Travel and, more recently, the Travelscope Group of Companies. In the sporting sector, Phil has provided restructuring advice to a number of high profile Premiership and Championship Football Clubs.
Phil has gained many years international experience, providing operational risk advice to Mauritius Commercial Bank Ltd, restructuring advice to the Federal Mogul Group of Companies and administration services to KPNQwest.
Phil is also highly respected within companies in the Asset Based Finance Association (ABFA) following his secondment to a leading ABFA member.
Phil is a Chartered Accountant and a licensed UK Insolvency Practitioner. He has also cochaired for the Institute for Turnaround (IFT) in the North of England.
