A founding partner of MCR, Paul has been a specialist in corporate recovery, restructuring and forensic investigations since 1981.
He qualified at a leading international accountancy practice, where he gained experience in highly regulated sectors, including banking, insurance and environmental.
As a partner in a top 20 accountancy firm, then later in his own practice, Paul broadened his scope of assignments and areas of industry expertise.
Paul brings his reputation for pragmatism on a wide range of assignments. His comprehensive knowledge of the law and best practice is fundamental to his success in developing creative solutions to financial problems. He is regularly asked to investigate substantial frauds.
Much of Paul's more recent restructuring work has required detailed knowledge of complex cross border commercial and legal issues. This has included working with a major German construction business as well as some recent assistance provided to a Middle Eastern conglomerate. Closer to home, Paul's UK assignments have spanned varied sectors, including manufacturing, distribution, property, retail, leisure and financial services, having recently been appointed Joint Administrator of Weavering Capital, a c$650m hedge fund and acting as Administrator of Folio Hotels.
In early 2007 he became one of the few insolvency practitioners working as a Court appointed Administrator to re-open a business already closed down by its management prior to his involvement. He has also been one of only a small band of practitioners to hand back companies to management following a successful formal insolvency procedure.
Paul has become a leading advisor to the leisure and travel sector. This has included acting as Administrator to Travelscope, one of the largest tour operator failures of the last decade.
As a supporter of the turnaround culture, Paul regularly advises boards on non-insolvency solutions and has taken an active role in many successful turnarounds. He believes in a participative approach involving all stakeholders in the process. He is well known for bringing harmony to apparently insoluble situations. He is well known for his ability to groom businesses for sale in the most beneficial manner achieving the greatest possible recoveries.
Where a formal insolvency is the only or the optimum solution, Paul is able to take the appointment and has proved to be a very successful negotiator in all manner of disputes.
Paul is a Chartered Certified Accountant and a licensed UK Insolvency Practitioner. He also acts as a UK board member of the Turnaround Management Association.
